Having lived in Naples I am embarrassed to say that it has taken us 16 years to drive to Sanibel and Captiva only 1.5 hours away. Having been cooped up inside for 2 months we thought, let’s take a drive and see the island and go visit Sea Oats. During a time of COVID where international travel may not be possible right away, this is a great alternative for families who want to escape close to home, but still over some seclusion and privacy. Sea Oats is a private estate in Captiva that we love for our families, weddings and cooperate retreats. This home can sleep 30 guests and has so much to offer. The home is a walk from the beach with a gorgeous view of the aquatic preserves. This is a great place to fish or, when the home is rented for a week the owners will include stand up paddle boards and kayaks. It also has a lighted tennis court which is fun. The home has a fabulous modern chef’s kitchen, courtyard pool, and easy walk to the beach with direct access.
The owners have recently launched a home across the street they call Sea Palms. This home is just as beautiful and newly renovated right on the Gulf. The views were the first stand out we could see from this 3-story home. The kitchen is a chef’s dream with 2 farmhouse sinks, a double oven and stove as well as two dish washers! The home has the option for a full time chef or you can have select meals prepared if you would like to do your own cooking. There are two fire pits with Adirondack chairs perfect for watching the sunset.
If you wanted to go into town it’s a short 10 min golf cart ride or 30 min bike ride from your villa. We had lunch at Doc Fords and had the best peel and eat shrimp and fries. We tried the cutest little ice cream shop called Joeys Custard on our way home which the kids and I highly recommend. I would say it was just as good as Love Boat Ice Cream which says a lot. They also have a candy shop and great atmosphere.
